Angels' Place, a private, not-for profit, faith-based organization
providing homes and services to adults with developmental disabilities.
Thirteen 24-hour state-licensed homes provide specialized residential
care, supported independent living and transitional services to 65 adults with
developmental disabilities ranging from mild to severe. Also, Angels'
Place Abundant Life Services offers educational workshops, community
supports for those living on their own, respite programs for caregivers and many
other types of outreach. Christian and nondenominational, Angels' Place
welcomes all faiths.
Angels' Place was founded in 1992 and its first home, Saddlewood,
opened in 1994. Transitional Services got underway in 1998 with the
opening of Holy Family Home to prepare higher-functioning residents to live more
fully on their own. Outreach programs through Abundant Life Services
launched in 2003.

More than 70,000 persons with developmental disabilities - about 1.8% of
the population - reside in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. By
contrast, only 800 state-licensed group homes serve the same region.
Angels' Place provides nurturing, respectful and loving homes for persons with
developmental disabilities, many of whom had been living with aging parents or
in foster care. Currently, 250 names are on the Angels' Place waiting
list. In the face of looming state deficits and severe funding cutbacks
for dental, podiatry, hearing aids, adult home help and other basic care,
Angels' Place must look increasingly to private contributions to sustain and
grow its mission.
