The Enrichment Club was established a number of years ago during the economic down turn when a number of the individuals that Angels’ Place serves lost their employment, their hours were significantly decreased or their health required that they just slow down a bit. The goal of Enrichment is to serve individuals who are under employed, unemployed or retired with an opportunity to develop, maintain and enhance those skills that will assist them with improving their employment readiness, living independently, contributing in a meaningful way to their community and/or simply feeling happy and fulfilled.
The individuals who participate in the Angels’ Place Enrichment Club focus on gaining experience and mastery in their particular areas of interest. Our general focus is communication, confidence, creativity and community; with the interests of the individual participants paving the way.
We believe people have opinions about events, people and places. Therefore, our concentration is on learning new and interesting things about people and history; retelling events and stories in sequence, listening, respecting personal space and developing conversation skills. Reading and writing is also a target area based on ability. The Enrichment Club participates in a card ministry sending greetings to people.
We believe that people need to be empowered and know that they matter. Through teaching good eye contact and providing the opportunity for the person to be successful in both tasks and relationship building, the individual gains a greater sense of value and integration, off-setting depression and other feelings of inadequacy.
We believe people need the opportunity to create, build and share their expressive nature through the participation in drama, music, dance and art. Angels’ Place has partnered with the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center to learn to draw outside the lines and develop one’s own personal voice and artistry.
We believe that people need the opportunity to network and open doors to new relationships that may lead to friendships, future employment, volunteer opportunities and acceptance. Daily we meet new people who share their gifts, talents and experiences; making our world a joyful place.
The Enrichment Club opens doors and builds bridges to friendships and experiences that would otherwise not be had for the people served by Angels’ Place. It is a vital and thriving component to the continuum of program services offered at Angels’ Place.
